In my show I combine inspirations from the martial arts with the fascination of fire and don't have a strict choreography, but change my show a little bit every time I perform it.
The heart of my show involves pairs of torches which are connected by short chains. The fire wheels that develop when the torches are twirled rapidly have similarities with the ones that can be produced with the increasingly popular 'fire pois', but the techniques are more complex. For with fire pois, the performer firmly holds one end of the chains all the time and just swings the other end. The special element of my chain torches is that almost every second, I change the torch which is gripped. Then, for a moment, both flaming torches swing freely, only guided by the movements of my body. Thus, I play a rapid game with the flames, which move in ever changing ways. The show is a constant, flowing change: between the gripped torches, between the gripping hands, between the positions in front of, behind or over my body. Always moving, always changing, like the flames.
With these techniques I am training for more than 15 years now - which I can only recommend to anyone who wants to work that fast and freely with fire.
